What We Are Doing & Not Doing

What We Are Doing & Not Doing

Spider Grandma Woven Blanket

During the quiet time, I was navigating a new life with a chronic illness. I was re-orienting myself to a different way of living. I did spend a lot of time ruminating on my vision for Mmmm, Yes!  But, mostly, I had many a lively conversation with my yard, which I had allowed to become untamed and wild.

Rewilding of my yard was such a joyful process. New wildlife, including an abundance of pollinators, moved in. I harvested the medicines that volunteered. I noticed how the medicines changed as my needs changed. & I expressed daily gratitude for nature as oracle. I meditated. I became better friends with my non-human neighbors. & of course, I created & researched how to make Mmmm, Yes! even more sustainable.

Rejuvenating Mmmm, Yes! demanded a renewed commitment to my deeply held beliefs. I care deeply about the environment. It’s a spiritual thing for me, as much as a scientifically backed political opinion. Mmmm, Yes! has always been sustainable in that we do not do what many major suppliers of home goods, clothing and accessories do.

Did you know?

The fast fashion economy has made clothing as disposable as our tissue paper.

  • Around 85% of all textiles produced by the fashion industry end up in landfills.
  • Of the 100 billion garments produced each year, 92 million tons end up in landfills.
  • One in every five garments produced by the fashion industry ends up in landfills without ever being worn once.

That’s a reason I’ve always set the intention for Mmmm, Yes! to be sustainable. All of our products are produced only when you, the customer, choose it. It’s made for you, when you want it.

But I knew there was room for improvement. & I found some new suppliers.

Here are some facts about Mmmm, Yes! Products:

Many people view change as a sweeping and immediate reform.  What few realize is that it occurs through consistent, conscientious, and intentional steps:

  • We’ve moved towards natural and recycled fibers:  The majority of our products have - at minimum -  70% organic or recycled materials.
  • We’ve put care into our printing materials: The inks we use for printing are Oeko-Tex certified, vegan, water based and free of harmful chemicals.
  • We consider our textile creation: The creation of our fabrics uses a technique which generates almost zero wastewater, and uses less energy than standard industry printers.
  • We don’t make what we won’t sell: Since everything you buy is made to order just for you, it generates less fabric waste and prevents clogging landfills.
  • Our products are timeless: Our unique designs never go "out of fashion" and remain a talking point for years.
  • Our work is the centerpiece: We create objects to build a household or a wardrobe around. We do not believe in scarcity marketing or the manipulative advertising tactic of  “limited editions.” We commit to you and we stand by our product’s longevity.

Building Community

For Christina, Mmmm, Yes! Has never been about selling you things that you do not need.  It has been about creating a visually interconnected community of people who share similar values, histories, and aesthetics. It has been about offering you a visual chance to see and be seen. Mmmm, Yes! sees us whole and harmonious.
